Pine Insects, Diseases, and Management

May 22, 2025 | 9 a.m.-Noon

This field day will focus on common issues affecting native pine species, primarily red and white pine. There will be a focus on identification, diagnosis, and management of the common pests in both plantation and natural pine stands. Bring your boots, questions, and curiosity and let’s take a walk! This field workshop will involve long periods of walking outside on gravel or wood chip trails. Please wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather. Exact location will be announced soon.

Alex Feltmeyer, M.S.

Forest Health Specialist-Division of Forestry, WI Department of Natural Resources

Alex attended UW-Stevens Point to earn a B.S. in Urban Forestry, and the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities to earn a M.S. in Plant Pathology focusing on oak wilt diagnostics and management. Alex’s role at the WI DNR is to detect, diagnose, manage, and monitor forest insects and disease on state and private land.
