The Department of English offers scholarships to currently enrolled students. Some scholarships require an application, submission of an essay or poetry, and others are granted by faculty nomination and committee vote. Students are notified of available scholarships in class, on posters, and via email at the beginning of the spring semester.
Awarded to a continuing senior in English Education with top grades in English and Education courses. The student is selected by the English Education faculty. There is no application. Award of $5,000.
Awarded to a senior English major for 1. sustained commitment to the Cornerstone Press; and 2. academic excellence in publishing studies at UWSP. The student is selected by Publisher-in-Chief of Cornerstone Press and other faculty. There is no application. Award of $200.
Awarded to a sophomore, incoming junior English major. Two awards are granted, one to a junior and one to a senior. Students must hold at least a 3.25 GPA in the major. The students who won as a junior can apply for the senior award. The application process includes submission of a persuasive essay of approximately 350-600 words in which you demonstrate the way in which you are an outstanding student majoring in English. Award of $1,000.

Awarded to a sophomore or junior English major or minor with the best three poems. Poetry is judged by English Department faculty. Award of $500.
Awarded to a first-year English major with 12 credits or fewer. Students are selected based on GPA, performance in English classes, and the quality of their application essay. Award of $1000. The application process includes submission of an essay up to 1000 words. Explain why you chose the English major and what you hope to do with it.
Awarded to the sophomore with the highest GPA in English at the completion of 12 English credits. There is no application. Award is $1,000.
Awarded to the junior with the highest GPA in English of continuing junior English majors. There is no application. Award is $1,000.
Awarded to the senior with the highest GPA in English of all graduating senior English majors. There is no application. Award is $1,000.
Awarded to the most outstanding student English major. The English Department faculty select and nominate students. There is no application, but the English Department Award Committee will ask students to submit supplemental materials after their nominations. Amount is $3,000.
Awarded to an English major or minor studying at any UWSP international programs site.
