A series of workshops designed to inspire wildlife conservation through art will be offered this fall through the Wisconsin Center for Wildlife at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The workshops will combine the technical aspects of drawing, painting or scratchboard art with learning about wildlife science, conservation and management, with wildlife as the subject matter. Materials are provided for each class, and artists of all skill levels are welcome.
- Drawing Wildlife from Reference Photos with Snapshot Wisconsin – Saturday, Sept. 28 – $40
The workshop offers the basics of drawing animals, including correctly capturing angles, shapes, value and proportions, using trail camera photos collected by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ Snapshot Wisconsin program. Participants will also learn how to classify wildlife photos on the WDNR’s Snapshot Wisconsin Zooniverse website and how Snapshot Wisconsin influences wildlife science.
- Drawing Wildlife from Taxidermy – Friday, Oct. 25 – $45 (Limit eight – register today!)
Join the WCW at The Taxidermy Store in Amherst, Wis., for an opportunity to use graphite to draw wildlife using life-size taxidermy mounts as models. The workshop includes a tour of the store’s showroom and a discussion of the role of hunting in wildlife conservation and management.
- Wildlife Illustration on Scratchboard – Saturday, Nov. 2 – $45
Instructor Terry Daulton will share scratchboard techniques as well as ways in which illustrating nature can bring a greater understanding of species and habitats to artists and viewers alike.
