See the masterful retelling of the beloved musical “Godspell” at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Jan. 31-Feb. 6

“Godspell”, written by award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz, will be staged in the Helen Connor Laird Theatre, 2000 W 5th St., Marshfield. Show are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and Thursday, Feb. 6, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2.

Under the skilled direction of director Donna Thompson, this updated version of “Godspell” displays a masterful retelling of the original sensation, injected with contemporary references and new arrangements.

The show tells a story of a small group of people helping Jesus Christ recounting different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed into the story of Jesus’ life. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, the messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.

This production is sponsored by the Laird Fund for the Arts. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at tickets.uwsp.edu.
