Universities of Wisconsin announcement: March 31, 2025
Dr. Thomas Gibson named chancellor of UW-Milwaukee
From Chancellor Gibson: A new role, and heartfelt gratitude
Today it was announced that I have been named chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I will take on this new role on or about July 1, 2025.
I am filled with gratitude when I consider my time as chancellor at UW-Stevens Point, for all the people I have met and worked with closely, our engaging students, our growing enrollment and programs, a welcoming region that stretched far beyond our campuses in Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wausau and for all that we accomplished together.
I am also grateful for the greater central Wisconsin community and the professional and personal support offered to me and my family for the past four-and-half-years. We truly value the friendships we have made here.
The decision to apply for another position was difficult and carefully considered because of the connections I have made through UW-Stevens Point. You all made my first chancellorship enjoyable and purposeful, and I will always remember it fondly.
I remain committed to UW-Stevens Point and its educational mission throughout the remainder of my tenure here.
