UW-Stevens Point celebrates Earth Week with events encouraging sustainability

UW-Stevens Point will celebrate and encourage sustainability across the campus and community this Earth Week.


A book talk, sustainable activities and an Eco Fair will mark Earth Week at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point April 21-27.

Local author Dave Greschner will host a limited capacity talk-back in the Trainer Natural Resources building room 110 at noon on Tuesday, April 22. Greschner will share insights from his book, “Soul of the Outdoors,” reflecting on nature’s beauty through the seasons. Participants must register in advance here.

The annual Environmental Educators and Naturalists Association (EENA) Eco Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room, 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point, featuring local businesses and student organizations with a sustainability focus. The theme for this year’s fair is “Stories of the Earth.”

On Saturday, April 26, students can participate in a climbing wall competition in the Skyward Fieldhouse hosted by UWSP Fitness and Recreation. Check-in begins at noon.

Schmeeckle Reserve will host several outdoor programs open to the public April 26-27, including family nature programs and an Earth Day tree planting.

Students will “Chalk the Walk for Earth Day” at UWSP at Marshfield April 21-22, and at UWSP at Wausau April 22-23.

UW-Stevens Point’s long-standing commitment to sustainability includes being the first university in the state to offer composting in every building and to have 100 percent of its electricity come from renewable sources. The university is consistently named to the Princeton Review Green College Honor Roll and earns gold star ratings from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. UW-Stevens Point recently won funding for updating its Carbon Neutrality Plan and is creating a Climate Action and Resilience Plan.
