Timothy Buchholz

BIO

Dr. Timothy Buchholz is a Professor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he directs the UWSP Vocal Jazz Ensemble, UWSP Wausau Jazz Central Voices, and teaches jazz and contemporary voice lessons and courses in popular music. Originally from Stevens Point, WI, he is a nationally recognized jazz singer, educator, and arranger. As a singer, Buchholz has performed at Carnegie Hall, New York City’s Lincoln Center, and has toured internationally in South Africa, Costa Rica, France, Estonia, Latvia, Germany, Austria, and Belgium. He has performed with many notable artists including Bobby McFerrin, Steve Miller, Bruce Hornsby, Patty Austin, Jon Secada, and Dave Grusin and is the recipient of 10 DownBeat Magazine awards for his singing and musical arrangements. Buchholz’s latest album, “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” was released in the spring of 2018. His arrangements have been published by Sound Music and Anchor Publications and used throughout the country in high school and college vocal jazz ensembles and for numerous all-state vocal jazz choir events.

Dr. Buchholz has previously directed ensembles and taught classes at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, Miami Dade College, and California State University at Long Beach. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Jazz Vocal Performance from the University of Miami, a Master of Music degree from California State University at Long Beach, and a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University.  Buchholz is currently the All-State Vocal Jazz Coordinator for the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association, Director of the UWSP Wausau Vocal Jazz Festival, Vice President of the River Valley Jazz Society, and Race Director of the Rib Mountain Adventure Challenge scholarship fundraiser.
