Diversity & College Access
OUR MISSION
The primary mission of Diversity and College Access (DCA) is to improve the retention and graduation rates for African American, Asian American and Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American and LGBTQ+ students. DCA connects these students to on and off campus resources and supports pre-college programs for low-income, first generation and academically at-risk high school students.
OUR VISION
To provide a safe space for all students.
RESOURCE CENTERS FOR STUDENTS
In addition to the main DCA Office, DCA houses four centers which include the Multicultural Resource Center, the Queer Resource Center, the Native American Center, and the Student Success Center. All four centers provide a welcoming space for everyone!
MULTICULTURAL RESOURCE CENTER
The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) at UWSP is designed to meet the specific needs of students from traditionally underrepresented groups. The MRC provides students with academic and social opportunities, seeking to encourage the success of UWSP’s Asian American, African American, and Latina/Latino/Latinx students.
Queer Resource Center
The Queer Resource Center (QRC) strives for the comprehensive support, education, and empowerment of LGBTQ+ Identifying Students, Staff, and Faculty at UWSP. Their outreach and scope provides resources to the Central Wisconsin community connected to our branch campuses. All are welcome to take advantage of the center’s free printing, lounge area, books, movies, personal care products, and much more!
Native American Center
The Native American Center (NAC) supports and develops cultural programs on campus while building community for our Native students. These initiatives encourage the revitalization of Indigenous cultures and languages while providing a tether to Indigenous students who are away from their home and families. The NAC connects indigenous students to resources and encourages personal and professional development while fostering appreciation for their Indigenous identity and culture.
Student Success Center
Fostering Success Program, LEAD Program, Non-Traditional Student Services Program
The Student Success Center houses two important programs within the Diversity and College Access Department: Fostering Success and LEAD Summer Bridge Program.
COLLEGE ACCESS: PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAMS
For high school students interested in a pre-college program, English for College or Upward Bound might be the right fit for you!
Bridge Program: LEADERSHIP, EMPOWERMENT AND DISCOVERY (LEAD)
LEAD is a summer bridge program that is focused on increasing first-year undergraduate students’ sense of belonging at UWSP. The program is aimed at providing a supportive community that promotes student success by getting first-year undergraduate students ahead and ready to start their college careers. It focusses on campus resources, transitioning into college, student success skills, social and enrichment activities, and the development of future campus leaders.
SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS
Undergraduate students can fund their education through the Lawton grant. Graduate students should review the Advanced Opportunity Program Fellowship to further fund their education.
The Noel Compass Scholarship (NCS) is a privately funded scholarship established to encourage and reward academic achievement, leadership, and citizenship for students from Wisconsin high schools attending UW-Stevens Point (UWSP). For questions about the NCS, please contact Scott West at swest@uwsp.edu.
