The College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point prepares students to succeed in the careers of today and tomorrow through a robust liberal arts education combined with discipline-specific expertise in the humanities, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences and technology. Our faculty prioritize collaborating with students in research, discovery, and service.

The college is organized into four schools that encompass academic departments with shared research interests and teaching approaches. Our faculty are recognized experts, gifted teachers and dedicated mentors in academic disciplines ranging from biology to world languages.

You’ll find examples across the College of students gaining career preparation and experiences. Students can apply to work directly with medical professionals through our Pre-medical Preceptorship. Each May, the Undergraduate Research Symposium invites students, guided by faculty mentors, to present their research. Explore!

Our undergraduates have had success working in social services and for government agencies across the community. Students may hone their public speaking and reasoning skills, as a representative in the Student Model UN. You’ll find examples across the College of students gaining career preparation and experience. The English Department’s Connection Project gives pre-service students experience leading literature course curriculum for high school students. The student staff of Cornerstone Press gain valuable publishing industry experience while bringing award-winning books into the world. Plus, there are chance to deepen learning in study abroad. Faculty routinely involve undergraduates in impactful research. Students can lead shows in the Blocher Planetarium. Our undergraduates have had success working in the business community in a variety of internships and co-ops. On campus, we offer experience in the Skyward Internship Center. Explore!

Undergraduate Research Symposium

Students showcase their research through poster and oral presentations during the College of Letters and Science annual event. Students across the humanities, natural sciences, math, computing, and the social and behavioral sciences can present their independent and faculty-mentored research. The study and presentation provide essential skills that students can develop into their career pathways.

By the Numbers

The College of Letters and Science features approximately 180 tenure-line faculty, 70 academic staff and 60 classified staff. Students can choose from 43 major degrees and nearly 60 minor and certificate programs across our 13 academic departments. Philosophy: Law and Justice

Enrolling Now!

The UWSP degree in Philosophy: Law and Justice, first offered in Fall 2023, will prepare students interested in non-profit work, work for NGOs, paralegal work, social services, and criminal justice, more broadly. The Law and Justice track emphasizes the environmental and social role that law and justice play, and intentionally develops the critical thinking and written and oral communication skills required for sustained success in law-related fields.

Community Sustainability

Department of Geography and Geology

Promote social responsibility and environmental protection in your career. The new Community Sustainability B.S. degree provides foundational skills in environmental science, climate change, and sustainability principles, coupled with advanced coursework and internship experience in urban planning and policy, ethics, justice, and organizational leadership. Choose an emphasis track of either Resilient Urban Systems and Policy or Environmental Justice and Community Engagement
