My professor is a transformational leader. He wants to see continuous improvement and helps push us out of our comfort zone so that we can be the best that we can be.
Overall, the dance faculty have had a major impact on my life and truly taught me things that have enhanced not only my talent but my confidence in myself as a dancer. The knowledge I have gained from them and the relationships I have created with them are ones I am going to cherish forever.
In my Drawing class, I have been developing my skills in sighting and measuring, perspective, and other essential artistic techniques. After graduation, I plan to pursue a master’s degree to become a practicing art therapist.
Every professor that I have had has made an impact on me in some shape or form, they encouraged participation and allowed me to expand my thought process in an extremely creative way. Without their guidance, my education would not have been nearly as memorable.
Last year I was awarded the James Vorland Technical Theatre Scholarship. This scholarship went towards my Theater in London study aboard program. This was a truly transformative and inspirational trip – I’d love to go back!
After graduation, I plan on going on to graduate school for clinical mental health counseling. I would like to work with children/teens and incorporate art into my therapy practice.
All the professors in the NFAC building are there to help answer my questions and sometimes just to chat and offer advice. Throughout my day on campus I am met with friendly faces and a supportive environment leading to productive days.
Professor Mark Hanson has given me countless opportunities to further my education and artistry. From teaching the dance combinations for the Musical Theatre auditions to choreographing a main stage production as an undergraduate student. He sees all that I am capable of.
Throughout my personal journey here at UWSP I have been so touched by all the faculty within the dance department. The community that is created under their leadership has changed me as an individual and helped me grow not only as a dancer but also as a human being.
Professor Gambrell has always been very helpful during our studio time and always helps when it’s needed. He will help check our angles if we are sighting and measuring and gives his thoughts on how well our colors match. He looks out for his students and gives us many opportunities to succeed, whether it’s helping us with our projects in class, or if it’s inviting us to put our work in an art exhibition in the Schneider Student Gallery.
The studio environment is perfect for getting work done comfortably. Each student has their space while having easy access to collaboration. We are able to hone our technical skills, namely color mixing, blending, and composition.
Professor Katja Marquart has had a profound impact on my time at UWSP. Her exceptional teaching and guidance have played a crucial role in my success, and I genuinely don’t know if I would have made it this far without her support. I’m incredibly grateful for her mentorship and the knowledge she has shared with me.
Beyond studios, I take courses that give a new perspective and inform future designs. The sustainability perspective and natural resources component is a particular focus, as well as the influence of social spheres. I am also very involved with professional development opportunities as there are many student organizations around campus.
