After 36 years of service and many positions at UW-Stevens Point, Marty Loy retired on June 30, 2023.

A letter from Marty

I have enjoyed the most wonderful 36-year career at UW-Stevens Point.

My career would have been much less meaningful if it were not for you, my students and athletes, my colleagues, and the many other community members, alumni and donors who I have met along the way. Your passion and support for UWSP and our students have been no less than inspiring. You have made leading the College of Professional Studies easy, rewarding and genuine.

UWSP afforded me many challenges and opportunities to grow­–starting as wrestling coach, then faculty member and for the past 13 years as dean. It has all been amazing and just look at what we have accomplished together.

• We professionalized our School of Business and Economics, opened the Anderson Classroom to Career Center, gained AACSB accreditation, added a degree in Data Analytics, opened a new MBA program, and just recently in partnership with Sentry announced a named Sentry School of Business and Economics.
• We added two doctoral programs: Doctor of Education in Educational Sustainability (Ed.D.), and Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT); and several additional new undergraduate and master’s degrees. 
• With the help of Marshfield Clinic Health System, we reorganized to take advantage of our strong array of health degrees that will strengthen our health care workforce, creating what we call the “Super” School of Health Sciences and Wellness. Also, in collaboration with the Legacy Foundation, embarked on a large-scale population health project in South Wood County. 
• We enhanced academic programs, created a Harju Center for Equity in Education, and provided many new student scholarships through a College of Professional Studies endowment that grew from $3.5 million to $26+ million.

I am so grateful for your help and generosity in making these successes possible. Working together, we have left a lasting mark on our college, programs, faculty and–most importantly–our students and the communities we serve.

A search is underway to hire my replacement by January 2024. I am excited to see who the next dean will be; and I look forward to joining you in supporting that person leading our future.

LOY FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

For nearly 40 years, Marty and Becky Loy and their children, Maria, John, Ted and Emma were active at UWSP. Marty served as wrestling coach from 1987-98, faculty and associate dean from 1998-2010, and as dean of the College of Professional Studies from 2010-23, also serving one year as provost in 2022.

The Loy children were privileged to grow up around campus attending sporting events, learning in Gesell preschool, participating in sports, music and academic camps. They ran around the hallways, rolled around the wrestling mats and ate snacks in the Chancellor’s Box at Pointers football games. They volunteered as office receptionists, served as teaching assistants in Gesell and worked on the grounds crew. UWSP provided support to the Loy family when they needed it most. It has presented Marty with many opportunities and provided support when Becky established Camp HOPE.

For these reasons, the Loys are proud to establish the Loy Family Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded annually to an under-served or underrepresented student pursuing a College of Professional Studies degree as encouragement to continue from freshman to sophomore, or sophomore to junior years.
