American author, humorist and radio personality Garrison Keillor will bring his stand-up, storytelling and songs to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in May.
“Garrison Keillor Tonight” will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center, 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point. The evening will include sung sonnets, limericks and musical jokes, with the theme of the beauty of growing old. The event is sponsored by Campus Activities and Student Engagement.
“Despite the inconvenience, old age brings the contentment of less is more,” says Keillor. “Your mistakes and big ambitions behind you, nothing left to prove, and small things give you great pleasure because that’s what’s left.”
General admission tickets are $32.75 in advance and $37.75 the day of the show. Purchase tickets at https://tickets.uwsp.edu, by calling 800-838-3378 or in-person at the University Information and Tickets office in the Dreyfus University Center concourse.
Keillor created and hosted “A Prairie Home Companion” on Minnesota Public Radio for 40 years, inventing a town called Lake Wobegon. Now retired, Keillor has written a memoir and book of limericks, and is working on a musical and Lake Wobegon screenplay. He continues to send out “The Writers Almanac” daily to his internet subscribers.
He has received a National Humanities Medal, Grammy Award, John Steinbeck Award, two CableACE awards and a George Foster Peabody Award. He is also a member of the National Radio Hall of Fame. Keillor and his wife live in Minneapolis.
