Open Forest Restoration

April 16, 2025 | Noon-1 p.m. CT

Join us as Dr. John Kabrick, Research Forester and Project Leader for the U.S. Forest Service, Northern Research Station discusses Open Forest Restoration.

PRESENTER

John Kabrick, Ph.D.

Research Forester and Project Leader, Northern Research Station, U.S. Forest Service

Dr. Kabrick is a Research Forester with the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station, and a Cooperating Assistant Professor in the School of Natural Resources. His research in silviculture, forest ecology, and forest soils is focused on developing and evaluating silvicultural systems for sustaining native flora and fauna communities in balance with traditional forest commodities. This includes quantifying the roles of disturbances (harvests and fire) and environmental conditions for creating and maintaining various forest and woodland structures over space and time. He also has interests in examining the long-term consequences of forest management on the soil’s ability to store carbon and to supply nutrients and water, and using models for evaluating silvicultural approaches for positioning forests for projected changes in climate.
