Ecological Silviculture Webinar Series

The Role of Microscale Habitat Features in Ecological Forestry

Mar. 19, 2025 | Noon-1 p.m. CT

Dr. Michael Demchik is a Professor of Forestry at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. Mike’s research covers a range of topics that center on the intersection of forest management, ecological restoration, and wildlife habitat. In this presentation, while the background of ecology and habitat elements will be covered, the bulk of the presentation will focus on how to implement these principles in the U.S. Lake States under conditions where providing quality timber to the forest products industry is still a main goal. This presentation will include descriptions and photos of numerous sites where this work has been carried out and will emphasize how to apply this at the stand and individual tree level.
