Our program owns and operates the CPS Café that serves as our Food Service Management lab and challenges you to incorporate local foods into recipes. The CPS Café gives you the chance to learn all aspects of food-service operation and environmentally-friendly management.

5-Year Program Options
Students majoring in dietetics also have the opportunity to apply for early admission into two related graduate programs for a combined bachelor’s and master’s degrees (4+1) in just five years.

CPS Café
CPS Café is a unique food service business open to the public. Dietetics students operate the CPS Café and experience all aspects of food service operation and management.
CPS Café offers the best natural and organic foods. The menu focuses on healthy eating choices. The food is sourced from sustainable local farms and the café uses green-sustainable practices in the operation. Fair trade coffees and bakery from scratch are featured every morning. Vegetarian and handmade soups, organic ranged meats and roasted organic vegetables are offered for lunch.

Graduates matched with internships
It was a perfect match this spring as all seven dietetics students from UW-Stevens Point who applied for a dietetic internship were successfully matched for their 1,200-hour supervised internship that is a necessary prerequisite for becoming a Registered Dietitian.

Accelerated Bachelor’s + Master’s 5-Year Program Options
Students majoring in dietetics (B.S.) or sustainable food and nutrition (B.A.) have the opportunity to apply for early admission into either of the two graduate programs offered by the School of Health Sciences and Wellness.
Advantages of the 5-Year Option
- Efficient curriculum: 8 credits count in both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees
- Save time: complete both degrees in 5 years
- Seamless transition to the M.S., which will be required starting in 2024 for those seeking the RD credential
- Flexibility: M.S. courses are 100% online and can be taken from anywhere
In semester 6 of the undergraduate program in dietetics or sustainable food and nutrition, students can apply for acceptance into the accelerated tracks. Prior to submitting an application, students must discuss their suitability for the accelerated track with their academic adviser. Acceptance into an accelerated track requires completion of the bachelor’s degree.
What to Expect as a Dietetics student?
Courses focusing on medical nutrition therapy, nutritional counseling, community programs, sustainable food systems and foodservice management will give you a broad base of knowledge. Program and course requirements for the dietetics major can be found in our course catalog. The dietetics program follows the current academic calendar for program completion. In addition to the tuition and fees for UWSP students, there are additional program costs for food lab clothing and knife and possible travel to area field work placement.
Accredited coursework is called the didactic program and after successfully completing this program and degree, you will receive a verification statement. This is the first step to prepare you to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Nutrition and Dietetic Technician, Registered (NDTR).
After earning your Bachelor of Science degree and verification statement, to become an RDN you must complete an ACEND-accredited supervised practice, also called a dietetic internship, and earn a master’s degree to be eligible for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) credentialing exam. Some states, such as Wisconsin, also require state licensure before practicing.
To become a NDTR after completing your degree and receiving a verification statement, you must pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s registration examination for NDTRs.

The Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) is designed for students interested in gaining practical experience in nutrition and dietetics. Membership gives you many opportunities to gain hands-on experience in hospitals, schools and the community. ACEND Accreditation
The UW-Stevens Point dietetics program has a five-year pass rate of 79 percent on the national RD exam for those taking the exam the first time and 96 percent pass rate for everyone taking the exam during their first year (first time plus repeat attempts).
