GROWING FUTURE INNOVATORS IN PHYSICS AND ASTRONOMY

Students majoring in physics at UW-Stevens Point put their curiosity into action. Early in their academic careers, students can engage directly with faculty and explore concepts to help them succeed. Our tight-knit program supports individualized attention from Department of Physics and Astronomy faculty. Students build a professional community with practical applications that lead to robust career outcomes.

The understanding of the laws of motion and properties of matter has implications for a wide array of career paths and our graduates are in high demand.

Apply Your Skills and Passion

The difference is doing. Our courses and applied learning experiences shape students into analytical thinkers, ready to solve problems and lead.

Programs

Choose a traditional physics degree, an applied physics degree with emphasis in mechanics or electronics, a physics/engineering dual degree, or a physics degree for teaching certification. Applied Emphasis majors complete semester-long industrial internships while working.

Research Projects

Develop your passion through meaningful research with faculty. Upper level students have co-authored published articles in scientific journals; others have presented talks describing their research at national conferences and regional meetings. Present your findings in the spring research symposium!

Summer Research/ Internships

Undergraduate internship opportunities help you gain invaluable experience toward your career path. Physics majors at UW-Stevens Point enjoy unparalleled access to international programming, including academic coursework at sites worldwide, London internships, and short travel courses covering specialized topics.

Student Organizations

Students interested in engaging with the professional community may get involved in related groups. Search SPIN for a chance to connect with the Society of Physics Students events and meetings or get involved in programming as a member of the Pointer Rocketeers!

Career Support

We are committed to your success by providing scholarships, faculty advising and support for navigating your academic career, and beyond.  Approximately half of our graduates accept fellowships or assistantships for advanced study at institutions across the country.

Department Scholarships

Students received over $26,000 in financial support last academic year, thanks to generous support of local and regional partners who believe in the quality outcomes of the UW-Stevens Point Department of Physics and Astronomy.
