The musical theatre degree offers its students stimulating pre-professional classes. The courses focus on the development and investigation of performance techniques. Classes include private voice lessons (four years), acting (Meisner technique), music theory/piano, musical theater performance labs, audition preparation/scene into song, musical theater dance, ballet, jazz, modern, tap, voice and articulation and musical theater history.

At UW-Stevens Point you will have opportunities each year to perform in a variety of venues including Jenkins Theatre, our black box Studio Theatre. Yearly performance opportunities include: Contemporary musical theatre productions, classical musical theatre productions, Player’s student group performances and Master Classes with visiting artists.

Graduating seniors have the opportunity to audition for leading agents and casting directors in an exciting introduction to the professional world. The training our majors receive is excellent preparation for success in nationally ranked graduate programs. Summer internships opportunities include:

APPLICATION PROCESS
Admission to all Theatre and Dance programs (with the exception of Arts Management) is by audition/interview only. The Department of Theatre & Dance partners with Acceptd so you can view application, audition and interview detail, submit your application and materials online, and schedule the location and date of your audition/interview.

National Association of Schools of Theatre
The College of Fine Arts and Communication at UW-Stevens Point is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre. UW-Stevens Point in the only college in the state to hold national accreditation in all of its arts programs: Art and Design, Dance, Interior Architecture, Music, and Theatre, placing it in the top 7% in the nation.

UW-Stevens Point offers five theatre and dance degree tracks, including three highly competitive conservatory-styled BFA programs in Musical Theatre, Acting and Design & Technology. In addition, we offer two liberal arts degrees: the BA Dance major and minor, with coursework in ballet, modern, jazz, tap and theoretical studies, and the BA Drama major, which allows students to study multiple focused areas such as playwriting, dramaturgy, directing, design, and acting. These excellent academic and production programs have established UW-Stevens Point as a primary undergraduate center in Wisconsin for students interested in the performing arts.
