Most of us enjoying a little on-the-job foraging… some blackberries here, some morels there. But how often do we think about intentionally managing non-timber forest products?  Forest farming is an agroforestry practice than involves the intentional stewardship of edible, medicinal, and decorative crops beneath a forest canopy. Join us as we discuss the integration of forest farming and silviculture with Eric Burkhart, Teaching Professor in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management at Penn State University.

Teaching Professor of Botany, Ethnobotany, and Agroforestry, Department of Ecosystem Science and Management, Penn State University

Eric is a professional botanist, ethnobotanist, and agroforester. In his position as teaching professor at Penn State University, he contributes by teaching university-level courses on plant identification, biology, ecology, conservation, and management. In addition, his research projects involve plant use and conservation, non-timber forest products, and forest product enterprise development. He leads workshops and field days for landowner and agency audiences, often in collaboration with partners.
