Field Trips
The Olson Museum of Natural History welcomes field trips of all kinds to visit our spaces. While we wait for future remodeling work for our museum exhibits and dioramas, we are able to offer alternative activities.
We can work collaboratively with the school field trip leader to create approximately 1 hour of activities that may include:
- an engaging tour of our current rebuilding progress
- a peek behind the scenes at our museum storage area
- hands-on activities
- a tour of our Tropical Conservatory
- a visit to our live animal vivarium
Our hands-on Discovery Room can fit approximately 15-20 students depending on their ages. Our Tropical Conservatory also fits approximately 15-20 students. We also offer self-guided scavenger hunt sheets focused on the display cases in our nearby Chemistry Biology Building.
If your group is large, you may choose to schedule a planetarium show in conjunction with your visit. This allows for smaller groups. If you are interested in this option, please contact the planetarium first as their schedule can be more limited. Call 715-346-2120 or email physastr@uwsp.edu
If you would like to schedule a field trip to the museum, please contact the museum outreach specialist Brigid Ferkett at bferkett@uwsp.edu, or call 715-349-2224.
When school groups visit our campus, it provides UWSP students an opportunity to engage with visitors about topics they are studying, like K-12 education, science, marketing, group management, interpretive program design, and more. Thank you for considering us!
The Museum of Natural History is located at 2001 Fourth Ave. on the first floor of the Science Building at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus. The museum has moved into the Science Building, Building 6 on the campus map. This is the same building as the Planetarium.
A minimum of two (2) chaperones is required for all field trips, and then one (1) adult for every ten (10) participants. Please have your groups organized before arriving to campus. Because of space limitations, your field trip may be split into smaller groups as they rotate around through our areas. Groups should be no larger than 20. You will be required to have two chaperones per group. At no time should any field trip students be unsupervised by their own chaperones.
For events that are scheduled during weekdays (Mondays-Fridays), free bus parking is available in the on the east side of Lot Q, a UWSP parking lot north of campus. Link to campus map.
If a driver will be leaving the bus in the street metered parking area, then payment at the city kiosk is recommended to prevent a parking citation. The city street parking is enforced by the City of Stevens Point Police Department (not the UWSP Parking Services).
