CADEN BERRY
GRADUATE HALL DIRECTOR — HYER HALL
The UWSP Housing and Residence Life department has truly allowed me to find myself as a leader and develop skills that I will be able to utilize within my future career. This department has also allowed me to foster community within the spaces I have lived in, and connected me with incredible people who I now have the honor of calling some of my best friends. In reflection of where I am today, I understand that it is in large part due to the positions I have held for this department in the past. From the start of my college experience here as a hall delegate for the Residence Hall Association my freshman year, to then planning 16 campus wide programs as the Special Events Coordinator my second year, to now serving as the Graduate Hyer Hall Director, I could not be more thankful for the experiences that have been provided to me.
This department pushes you to be the best version of yourself, while also inspiring the next generation of leaders to spread their wings and grow as well. Trying to attend to all of my responsibilities as a full time graduate student, while also serving as the graduate Hyer Hall Director has not been easy, however, it has given me the opportunity to reflect on all of the places I have been, and the places I have yet to go. The professional staff members are very supportive, and encourage you to ask questions, engage in professional development opportunities, and make the most of your time here. I cannot say enough good things about this department and all it has to offer.
JULES BUTTLES
RESIDENCE HALL DIRECTOR — NEALE HALL
Hey everyone! My name is Jules Buttles (she/her) and this is currently my first year as the Neale Residence Hall Director at UWSP. I came to UWSP from another professional position in the UW System. What drew me to point was the connection, support, and the ability and opportunity to grow as a professional along with so much more. I was definitely nervous to come to a new institution where I would need to learn a new campus, new department, and where I fit in. Though I was nervous those who work in this department have made this transition easy, this team is supportive by challenging you to grow outside your comfort zone but letting your ideas and thoughts be heard. For most Hall Directors the Hall Director role is a steppingstone, whether that is to move up in higher education or learn and experience new things to help with your goal of your forever job career. Residence life here at UWSP will help you grow and get everything you wish out of this role for whatever comes next in your life. I have been given opportunities to sit on the professional selection committee, professional training committee, going to conferences and choosing areas that will help me strive in my current role and what will help me in whatever comes next. What I love about this department is the dedication and strive each and every one of us gives to our students and with that I hope to see you as a part of this great team here at UWSP!
KYLIE KIRKEENG
RESIDENCE HALL DIRECTOR — MAY ROACH HALL
My name is Kylie Kirkeeng and I am in my second year as a Hall Director here at UWSP. I went to undergrad here and loved the sense of community it offered me as a student. I knew I wanted to come back as a professional and am lucky to be back to help build the community in my building. The students I get to work with at UWSP have reminded me why I continue working in this field and has helped fuel my passion for the job. I wouldn’t be the professional I am today without the Hall Director group and the students here. UWSP was home for me as a student and I am happy to call it home again as a Hall Director!
NIA THOMPSON
GRADUATE HALL DIRECTOR — Pray-Sims/Smith Complex
Throughout my time at Stevens Point I have been connected with Housing and Residence life in multiple aspects. Starting as a Residential Assistant in this field and growing into a Graduate Assistant has given me the opportunity to grow familiar place. I was able to build strong relationships as a Residential Assistant and continue to forge and grow these relationships professionally. Through this journey, I have been welcomed with open arms and provided guidance and support. My supervisors, coworkers and truthfully anyone I have come in contact with this position has taught me valuable lessons and challenged me while giving me insight when I need it.
In my time at Stevens Point I have grown not only professionally but personally. This campus continues to grow and flourish, and Housing and Residence Life ensures all professionals do the same. There is no shortage of on-campus activities to get not only students involved, but professional staff. I have been provided opportunities to connect with professionals outside my department and work on projects outside of my residence hall. UWSP is an institution that not only keeps you engaged but gives you the room to grow and learn as you develop your professional style.
