Administrative Actions

Governor DoyleThe University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point has taken a number of administrative steps toward the goal of a sustainable future. In 1990, the University Leaders for a Sustainable Future created the Talloires Declaration, the first official statement of its kind, in order to  promote university leadership in the environmental movement.  Along with many other universities worldwide, UWSP became a signatory.  In 2006, as one of four Wisconsin universities specifically chosen to participate in Governor Jim Doyle’s state-wide energy independence project, UWSP has committed to going “off the grid” by employing renewable energy resources into campus operations.  In June of 2007, UWSP Chancellor Linda Bunnell signed the American College and University President’s Climate Change Commitment (ACUPCC), which aims to eliminate all campus-related global warming emissions.  The signing of the ACUPCC spurred the creation of the UWSP Sustainability Task Force, a group containing students, faculty, and staff, which will serve to fulfill the requirements of the ACUPCC.
