College of Fine Arts & Communication

The
College of Fine Arts and Communication has an
interconnected web of media venues to promote green living
and environmentalism. With students majoring in media
production, journalism, and public relations, this college
offers a range of resources for getting out the "green
beat."
*The
Pointer – The Pointer, UWSP’s weekly school
newspaper, serves as an outlet for anything green that goes
on around campus.
*STV
– STV, UWSP’s very own television station, is another good
way to get out the "green word." Many groups on campus
utilize STV to promote and inform the student body of
sustainable initiatives. STV is available for live event
coverage as well as specialty programming.
*90
FM – 90 FM, UWSP’s student-run radio station,
provides access to a wide audience of listeners, including
everyone in the Dreyfus University Center, which is tuned in
to 90FM daily. With 24/7 broadcasting, 90 FM is
accommodating to anyone wishing to promote their
organization or event, including environmental groups or
sustainability events. 90 FM recently switched to an LED-lit
radio tower, which will save vast amounts of money and
energy.
*PRSSA
– The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
promotes sustainable thinking on campus. In 2007,
PRSSA launched a campaign, as a
direct request from UWSP Chancellor Linda Bunnell, to reduce
litter on campus. The campaign, “Don’t be a Dirty Dawg, Keep
your Campus Clean” was a huge success! Because of PRSSA's
campaign efforts, the university
saved money by not having to hire an extra groundskeeper.
PRSSA is currently working on a sustainability campaign in
conjunction with campus sustainability coordinators.
An additional Communication course has been added for the
spring semester of 2009 with an environmental focus:
Communication 323: Advanced Journalism with an environmental
subtitle taught by Professor Steven Hill. Check it out!
