“A Family Portrait: Gender Roles and Generation Gaps” is the theme for the ninth annual “Taste of Toj Roob--the Mountains” event held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) and hosted by the Hmong and Southeast Asian American Club (HaSEAAC).
The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from 5 to 9 p.m., in the Dreyfus University Center Laird Room. Doors open at 4 p.m.
A banquet of various Southeast Asian dishes, including the famous Hmong egg rolls, will be followed by a presentation by Zha Blong Xiong, an associate professor in the Department of Family Social Science at the University of Minnesota. Entertainment throughout the evening will be provided by UWSP students and community members.
Xiong’s keynote address at 6:15 p.m. will focus on gender roles and generation gaps in the American Hmong culture. Much of his research focuses on bicultural parenting for Southeast Asian families, including delinquency trends among immigrant children. Xiong holds degrees from Winona State University and the University of Minnesota.

Admission is $12 for adults or $15 at the door if available, $8 for UWSP students and no charge for children ages 10 and under. Groups of eight or more must purchase tickets ($10 per person) in advance.
